The Institute of Translation & Interpreting (ITI) and FIT Europe are joining forces to stage a roundtable event to establish best practices in the corporate governance and management of professional associations for translators and interpreters. Delegates are invited from all of Europe’s professional associations for translators and interpreters, including from those who are not yet full members of FIT or FIT Europe
Professionalising Your Association: Establishing Best Practices in Running a Professional Membership
Organisation for Translators and Interpreters, Saturday, 28 April 2012, London, United Kingdom
Further details on venue and booking options will be released in due course.
Professional associations are invited to submit proposals for presentations on aspects of their corporate governance or management that they wish to share with the meeting during the morning session. Presentations should be no longer than 30 minutes, plus 15 minutes for questions. They should explain how your association has dealt with a specific aspect of its management, such as member qualification, managing decentralised board meetings, delegation of powers, regionalisation and financial management. During the afternoon session, all delegates will have the opportunity to discuss questions arising in the morning, with the aim of producing a blueprint for newly professionalising associations.
Proposals of no more than 500 words should be submitted by email attachment in Microsoft Word format to ITI Vice-Chairman of Council Iwan Davies: email@example.com. Please clearly mark your message "Proposal for ITI/FIT Europe Round Table". The deadline for submission of proposals is 31 January 2012. Proposals must be submitted by professional associations, rather than by individuals, but it would be useful if your proposal could indicate who will be giving the presentation.
About ITI: The Institute of Translation & Interpreting is the UK’s foremost professional association dedicated to translators and interpreters. Having celebrated its 25th anniversary in 2011, it is now looking forward to growing further over the next 25 years and is in the process of consulting on and implementing a variety of changes in preparation for this expansion.
About FIT Europe: FIT Europe is one of the regional centres of the Fédération Internationale des Traducteurs / International Federation of Translators (FIT/IFT). It unites some 40 associations of translators, interpreters, terminologists and other language specialists right across Europe.
The mission of FIT Europe is to further the interests of these language professionals in Europe. To that end, FIT Europe serves as a forum for exchanging information, experience and best practice, finding solutions to shared problems and agreeing on measures to heighten public awareness of this profession.
